Why Get Certified
Businesses across Medina County are choosing Rainbow Society certification to show customers, staff, and families that they are truly LGBTQ+ affirming. Certification builds visibility, strengthens trust, and sets your business apart as a safe, welcoming space for all.
By becoming a Certified Safe Business, you take a visible stand for equality and safety in Medina County. Your certification shows LGBTQ+ residents and families that your doors are open, your staff is welcoming, and your business is committed to the wellbeing and dignity of every person who walks in.
Whats Involved?
Who Qualifies as a Safe Business?
We incourage you to apply for Safe Business Certification if your company is committed to:
Inclusive & Affirming Practices
Businesses must demonstrate a consistent, genuine commitment to treating LGBTQ+ customers, clients, and employees with respect. This includes welcoming language, professional behavior, and equal service standards
Agreement to the Safe Business Pledge
Applicants must review and agree to the Rainbow Society Safe Business Pledge, confirming that they uphold non-discrimination, respect for identities, and safe, affirming interactions in their daily operations.
No Verified History of Anti-LGBTQ+ Conduct
Businesses must not have credible reports of discrimination, harassment, or refusal of service based on gender identity, sexuality, or expression. If past issues occurred, proven corrective action must be in place.
Respectful Interactions With Staff & Customers
All representatives of the business — owners, managers, contractors, and employees — must maintain respectful, professional behavior toward LGBTQ+ individuals. This includes correct names/pronouns when known, welcoming communication, and prompt response if concerns arise. A safe business protects everyone in its space.
Safe & Welcoming Environment
The business must maintain an environment free from hostility, slurs, intimidation, or degrading commentary. Whether online or in-person, the space should feel safe and inclusive for LGBTQ+ customers and staff.
Display of Certification Materials
Certified businesses must display their Safe Business decal (or digital badge online) so the community can easily identify inclusive spaces.
Commitment to Accountability
Businesses agree to uphold these standards at all times and understand certification may be reviewed, paused, or revoked if concerns arise.
